About us
My name is Steve Ash, and two years ago my wife, Tracy, was diagnosed with dementia. While the diagnosis was heartbreaking, we were fortunate to have the financial resources to access the care, equipment, and support she needed.
During our journey, we realized that many families facing dementia and Alzheimer's are not as fortunate. Too many people struggle to afford essential care, home safety equipment, respite services, and other resources that can make an enormous difference in the quality of life for both patients and their caregivers.
That realization inspired us to create the Blue Bird Forget Me Not Foundation.
The name of our foundation holds a special place in our hearts. Tracy has always loved bluebirds, and to us they represent hope, comfort, and brighter days even during life's most difficult moments. Combined with the forget-me-not flower—a symbol of remembrance and enduring love—the name reflects our commitment to honoring those living with Alzheimer's and dementia while supporting the families who care for them.
Our mission is simple: to help families facing Alzheimer's and dementia receive the support they need, regardless of their financial circumstances. We believe no family should have to choose between providing the best possible care for a loved one and meeting their basic financial needs.
Through community support, fundraising, and compassionate outreach, we strive to bring hope, dignity, and practical assistance to those navigating one of life's most difficult journeys.
Together, we can help families remember that they are not alone.
About Alzheimer's and Dementia
Alzheimer's disease and dementia affect millions of individuals and families around the world. While these conditions primarily impact memory, they also affect thinking, behavior, communication, and the ability to carry out everyday tasks.
What is Dementia?
Dementia is not a single disease. It is a general term used to describe a decline in memory, reasoning, and other thinking skills that interferes with daily life. There are many different types of dementia, with Alzheimer's disease being the most common.
What is Alzheimer's Disease?
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive brain disorder that gradually damages memory and cognitive function. Over time, individuals may experience increasing difficulty recognizing loved ones, communicating, making decisions, and completing routine activities. Although there is currently no cure, treatments and support can help improve quality of life and manage symptoms.
Common Warning Signs
Memory loss that disrupts daily life
Difficulty planning or solving problems
Confusion with time or place
Trouble finding the right words when speaking
Misplacing items and being unable to retrace steps
Changes in mood, personality, or behavior
Withdrawing from work, hobbies, or social activities
Supporting Families
An Alzheimer's or dementia diagnosis affects the entire family—not just the individual living with the disease. Caregivers often face emotional, physical, and financial challenges while providing daily care and support.
At the Blue Bird Forget Me Not Foundation, we believe no family should face this journey alone. Our mission is to provide resources, financial assistance, education, and hope to those navigating the challenges of Alzheimer's and dementia.
Together, we can make a difference—one family at a time.
